Social Engineering at #Sosueu 2106

Glen Cathy opened Sosueu 2016 with a great deck on Social Engineering. Social Engineering is as old as people started to communicate. Funny about the hacks he gave on Social Engineering is, that lots of these hacks seem to be normal, but being aware of the techniques makes it a great asset to your daily tasks .

As always Sourcing Summit is about sourcing, but also about inspiring Sourcers to crawl out of there tunnel vision. New this year was the Pre Conference event: #SosuHacks… Even more reasons to join next year 🙂

In preparation of my presentation this year, I have been thinking, why it takes that long in most of the companies before Sourcing gets its spot in the recruitment marketing mix.

Most of the time, the biggest hurdle to take is to convince the Hiring manager.

World Domination #HRTechWorld 2015

Martijn Hemminga, owner at Recruitmentsystemen.nl came to Paris last October to see what is happening in the world of HRTech. During his visit at the venue he has spoken with some of the Dutch Delegates, like Cammio, Appical and People Sourcing Crew.

The interview tells you (in Dutch) why people come to HRTech, what is the holy grail in sourcing and what are cool tools like Gild, Talentwunder and Benify. And what are my plans for 2016….

World Domination… well to start with, and than save the rest of the universe…. It’s all in the name…

Topic: What is Sourcing, Why think of a sourcing strategy, How to realize your Strategy

Global Talent Identification

Wow, that’s been a while, me writing a post on something… I think other platforms got a hold on me.

In the meanwhile the economy started to become more positive and finally the moon seems to be able to cover the sun… So time to write again.

The reason why I wanted to post this blog is, I just wanted to let you know how things are going.
Another turn in my career path has taken place.

Still recruiting, yes.

Still sourcing, yes.

Still scouting for the best talent out there, yes.

Still doing cool internet and mobile things in recruitment, yes

Oh and the all the other stuff, like training and speaking as well.

A lot of the work I – no – We do, since I run a Crew nowadays, working on all of the above, the People Sourcing Crew, has to do with Global Talent Identification.

The work we do is like talent mapping (mapping out where people live that do what you like them to do) but a little more specific:

Global Talent Indentification

Gaining insight of who is doing what we like them to do, where do they do that now and most importantly how do we get connected with these persons.

So once you start telling people what People Sourcing Crew is doing: Global Talent Identification – you get clients in who like talent to be identified, no matter where the live on the globe.

That’s it for now,

Linkedin Contacts Cool Feature

Reading booleanstrings.com, one great blog about sourcing, curated by Irina Shamaeva

Okay, so Linkedin came up with a renewed feature including app, in US store only btw, so that is annoying. Linkedin Contacts
Also to get your linkedin contacts synced with the new feature you have to refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh and at some point you think everything is synced.

No, it says all your contacts are now synced, but the actual contact list is not.. not yet.

Linkedin contacts sync.jpg

So if you go back to contacts, only a few are in there..
To solve that you have click connections in the side menu: again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again at some point it will only add another 40 per refresh. Funny thing is during this process of synchronizing you’ll see next to “all contacts a different number presented that on top of the contact list… usually a difference between 10-14 connections… Btw if you just wait the machine keeps on running his sync, it is just not as quick as me hitting the refresh button, expecting to get it all at once.

And in the end, when you think it’s done and the numbers are right, I still notice my Linkedin homepage tells me I have even more connections than added to the Linkedin contacts feature…

In other words Irina you wrote this: (albeit still very buggy) between brackets, but you can leave the brackets for now 🙂
Having all this said. Now exploring the feature: big plus, Tagging possible per group of people, finding people in your network based on email addresses, like e.g. give me all that has listed ebuddy.com email or have a hotmail account etc.

The nicest thing about this, I can finally work through my 30K contacts again in a quick and efficient way.

Thank you Linkedin 🙂

I wrote this long comment btw on booleanstrings.com..  that is why I thought I could also repost this on my blog 🙂

Where People Sourcing stops and Candidate Curation begins

Often I got the questions, what is sourcing, what is people sourcing.

Well here is your answer:
Sourcing, people sourcing is about finding people that match the profile you are looking for.

People sourcing is about creating a list of names, matching interests to what you are looking for in a person and a way to connect with the person.
Often starts with gathering intell about the profile in general, find out what the keywords are to be able to refine your results and get the best results. After these steps you go online and decide what to look for e.g. a resume, a social network profile, or a blog where these people gather etc. Collect the names and contact details matching the profile. Than you find. Full Stop. People Sourcing part has ended.

Candidate Curation begins
In my opinion, you are curating candidates from the moment you are in touch with a person to find out whether they qualify for pre selection, from the moment they answer you question “are you interested in more details about this role” with a yes.

A yes means you can put them in your ATS for further processing the candidate till you hire or decide not to hire the person.
Once you have decided, your company is going to pay for the mortgage of this person, the label candidate drops and Employee Relationship starts.

If you decide to stop the application / hiring process with the candidate, candidate curation is still very important, talking about Employer branding here. The rejected candidate could still become you brand advocate. WOOOOT!

Candidate Curation is a very important thing
… You need to be able to cope with.
Remember, if you start advertising your candidate profile, “job ad”, you might find people in your mailbox, dm, whatsapp, linkedin, Facebook, etc that show interest in your advertised profile.
By putting your job out there, you actually are asking the question: “are you interested in more details about this role” by showing interest, the person answers with “yes”.

Please do get back to them. candidate curation

Good candidate curation gets you further in your sourcing activities, the candidates most of the time get you new sources to explore, bring in new profiles and more useful keywords. So stay connected with your sourcers if you do the candidate curation.
People sourcing and candidate curation is like … “01010000 01100101 01101111 01110000 01101100 01100101 00100000 01110011 01101111 01110101 01110010 01100011 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01100011 01100001 01101110 01100100 01101001 01100100 01100001 01110100 01100101 00100000 01100011 01110101 01110010 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110” … without it doesn’t work….

People Sourcing, not about technology and innovation

Sourcing became one of the hot topics over the past few weeks here in my blog.
I mentioned Sourcing is cool, and it is.

In the meanwhile an International People Sourcing Contest took place. The contest was spread all over the web. Guess who won this contest..

The prize I won, enter the course.. no: “I was able to immediately enter the final exam of the CPSP-Level 2”
Easy exam, I hear you thinking, .. took even me roughly a full day of work to answer the 80 questions in there … But now I am officially a Certified People Sourcing Professional Level 2.. How about that

As stated by Irina Shamaeva, Sourcing is about People, not about Technology or Innovation… And so it is, although it made sourcing a lot easier and more efficient…

Since 2007 when I started training recruiters via 2rise.nl in what sourcing is about, we were talking about internet search, but as technology moves forward, so does terminology: Internet Search… We stopped searching in the past few years and started finding. More and more information came to the internet and people left their footprint whether they know of it or not. Via scanned newspapers you even know sold his house for what price back in 1993..
We became Cybersleuths, but in the end it is all about Sourcing, the Sourcer… Of course you now start thinking about the sourcerers.. And yes Sourcers do use a little magic… But don’t tell anyone.

To meet the Winner of the “International People Sourcing Contest 2012”: Gordon Lokenberg, you can come and visit one of these events in the Netherlands:

15th of November HRtheNextLevel,
22nd of November TruAmsterdam,
6th of December DWWD, “Stop Searching, Start Finding”

Special thanks to Irina Shamaeva and her team for creating these wonderful challenges!
btw if you like to try the International People Sourcing Contest yourself. Have fun and let me know what you think of it.
